Background & Aims: Work-related flow is a mental state that individuals experience when they are fully immersed in their work and leads to a high level of performance and quality of execution. The aim of the present study was to determine work-related flow and its dimensions among nurses.
Material & Methods: In this descriptive-cross-sectional study, 202 nurses working in 4 educational and medical centers affiliated with Iran University of Medical Sciences were selected for the research using quota sampling. Data were collected using a personal characteristics form and a valid and reliable work-related flow instrument. Data analysis was performed using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results: The average age of the nurses was 33.77±7.7 years and their average work experience was 9.5±7.2 years. The overall work-related flow score in the research units was 16.4 with a standard deviation of 1.10. In addition, work-related flow had the highest score in the intrinsic motivation dimension with an average of 4.72 and the lowest score in the work enjoyment dimension with an average of 3.73 among the dimensions of work-related flow. Among the personal characteristics of the nurses, marital status had a statistically significant relationship with work-related flow.
Conclusion: The results of this study can help nursing managers to better understand the status of nurses' work-related flow, design programs to increase their work-related flow, and place individuals in appropriate positions according to their potential work-related flow. In this way, employees will have better work efficiency in their appropriate departments.
