Background & Aims Studies have indicated the importance of emotional, spiritual, and moral intelligence in the academic progress of students. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the relationship between moral intelligence, spiritual intelligence and emotional intelligence in nursing students in Kashan, Iran.
Materials & Methods This is a descriptive-correlational study that was conducted on 200 nursing students in the 1st and 8th semesters in Kashan city in 2023, who were selected via convenience sampling. The questionnaires included a demographic form, questionnaires of Bradberry-Greaves’ emotional intelligence test, Lennick and Kiel’s Moral Competence Inventory (MCI), and King’s Spiritual Intelligence Self-Report Inventory (SISRI-24). The collected data were analyzed in SPSS software, version 21 using statistical tests including independent t-test, Pearson’s correlation test, and linear regression analysis.
Results There was a statistically significant difference in emotional intelligence (P=0.01) and spiritual intelligence (P=0.002) between the first-semester and eighth-semester students, but the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant in terms of moral intelligence (P=0.06). The was a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence (r=0.241, P=0.001). The results of the multiple regression test showed that emotional intelligence could positively predict 5% of the variance in spiritual intelligence.
Conclusion There is a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence among Iranian nursing students in the first and eighth semesters. With the increase in their emotional intelligence, their spiritual intelligence also increases. Educational workshops are recommended to strengthen the emotional and spiritual intelligence of nursing students.
