Background & Aim: After taking care of stroke patients, their caregivers experience the care burden that has negative effects on different dimensions of their lives. Resilience is a factor that seems to be able to help them adapt to the created conditions. For this purpose, the present study was conducted with the aim of determining the predictive role of resilience in the care burden of family caregivers of stroke patients in 2023.
Material and Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional and correlational study, 194 caregivers of stroke patients in Besat Hospital in Hamedan city whose that the severity of disability of their patients was moderate and based on Barthel scale was between 61 and 90, were selected by convenience method. Data collection tools included: demographic characteristics form, Novak and Guest care burden questionnaires, Connor-Davidson resilience and Barthel disability severity scale. Data analysis was done in SPSS 25 software with descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient and linear regression.
Results: The results showed that the mean age of caregivers was 42.53 years, 52% of them were male and the level of education of 26.8% of them was diploma. Also the mean of care burden and resilience scores were 86.35 ± 13.09 and 42.56 ± 10.38, respectively. It was also found that the relationship between care burden and resilience of caregivers is inverse and significant resilience is one of the predictive factors in reducing their care burden (P < 0.05, r = -0.185, β = -0.233).
Conclusion: Considering that it was found that one of the effective factors in reducing the care burden of caregivers is resilience; it is recommended that health care providers by identifying effective strategies for people's resilience help caregivers of patients to strengthen their resilience to reduce their care burden and help them in the way of caring for their patients.
