Abstract

Background & Aims: Increasing patients’ satisfaction with the quality of nursing services requires planning. Therefore, in the present study, Peplau model was used for planning to increase patients’ satisfaction with the quality of provided nursing services at the cardiac intensive care unit and the results were evaluated.

Material & Methods: The present study was a semi- experimental research. Study population included all the patients who were hospitalized at the cardiac intensive care unit of the Ali-Ibn-Abitaleb hospital of Rafsanjan in 2015. Participants were selected through simple non-randomized sampling and were allocated into two groups of intervention (34) and control (34). Data gathering tool was the standard 21- item Patient Satisfaction with Nursing Care Quality Questionnaire (PSNCQQ). Data were analyzed using SPSS 16 and Chi-square test, Mann-Whitney test, and Fisher’s exact test.

Results: Results showed that after the intervention, patients’ satisfaction with the quality of provided nursing services was significantly increased (P < 0.05). Also, in the domains of nursing skills and knowledge (P < 0.05), nursing ethics (P <0.05), communication with patients (P < 0.05) and education (P < 0.05) a significant difference was observed between the intervention and the control group after the intervention.

Conclusions: Peplau model could be used to increase patients’ satisfaction with the quality of provided nursing services at the cardiac intensive care units.
