Background & Aim: Providing quality nursing care has always been the main concern of nurses. Competence and moral courage are effective factors in providing nursing care. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the relationship between clinical competence and moral courage in nurses.
Material and Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional correlational study that was conducted in 2023 in teaching hospitals affiliated to Hamadan University of Medical Sciences. 123 nurses working in Hamadan hospitals were included in the study by simple random sampling method. Data collection tools included: Sekarka's moral courage questionnaire, Liu et al.'s clinical competency questionnaire and demographic profile form. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance and Pearson's correlation coefficient in SPSS 16 software.
Results: The results showed that the mean ± standard deviation of clinical competence and moral courage scores were 151.18 ± 22.32 and 59.56 ± 7.47, respectively, which indicates the average level of clinical competence and high moral courage. It was also found that there is a statistically significant and direct relationship between moral courage and clinical competence (P = 0.001, r = 0.272).
Conclusion: Because based on the results, the level of clinical competence of nurses was average, therefore, it is possible to suggest educational workshops to improve clinical competence, and on the other hand, since there was a weak relationship between clinical competence and moral courage of nurses, it can be concluded that factors other than competence It is clinically related to moral courage, which requires further studies.
