Introduction: The numerous problems of children suffering from congenital heart diseases and their burden of care cause a decline in the quality of life of parents, especially mothers. Compliance with treatment after discharge from the hospital is crucial. Considering the many problems that exist in the discussion of educating patients, it is necessary to identify effective solutions for providing home care educational programs. Given the ever-increasing expansion of technology and the spread of mobile phones, it seems that educational applications as a new educational method are one of the effective solutions for improving the quality of education.
Methods: The current study is a double-blind randomized clinical trial with a control group that will be conducted on the mothers of children suffering from congenital heart diseases who have been referred to the Children’s Medical Center affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences for surgery. The tools used in this study include the Demographic Information Questionnaire, the SF-36 Quality of Life Questionnaire, and Modanlo et al.'s Adherence to Treatment Questionnaire. Data collection will be done before and one month after the intervention. The collected data will be analyzed with appropriate parametric and non-parametric statistical tests, including mean and standard deviation, independent t, paired t, chi-square, Fisher’s exact test, and Mann-Whitney.
Findings: The results of this study determine the effectiveness of an educational intervention based on a mobile phone application on improving the quality of life and adherence to treatment of mothers of children with CHD.
Conclusion: This article was the protocol of a study that examines the effect of post-surgery home care training in the context of a mobile phone application on the quality of life and adherence to treatment of mothers. The results of such studies can help to identify the methods of teaching the patient faster, easier, and more effectively.
