  An explanatory study was conducted to investigate the nursing care provided to patients with toxemia of pregnancy hospitalized in the Medical Sciences University Hospitals gynecology wards in Tehran.

  A tot al of 65 patients with toxemia hospitalized in gynecologic wards in 14 hospitals supervised by Tehran,

  Shahid Beheshti and Iran universities were selected.

  The data were gathered upon reviewing patient's records. Further observations were made to gather information

  on nursing care measures provided to the subjects.

  The findings are presented in 10 tables. Descriptive statistics were employed to discuss the findings.

  It was found that provision of nursing care to the subjects is very good for 55.39% while 44.6% received only

  Moderately satisfactory care. Thus, concerning the nursing care provided to women with toxemia for carrying

  physical examination procedures upon admission of the patient, the majority (75./3%) obtained a good score and

  17.86% a moderately satisfactory score. The physical facilities provided to patients with toxemia. a second purpose

  Of the study, was scored good by 100 percent. In relation to the third purpose, the physical care provided to the

  subjects was scored high in 63.07% of cases and unsatisfactory in / .55%. Finally in accordance with the last

  purpose, the psychological care provided to women with toxemia of pregnancy was scored high by 60% of cases and

  unsatisfactory in a minimum of /5.38% cases.

  Further the researcher has made suggestions for in service education programs to be provided to all personnel

involved with the care of such patients and recommendations for further research are made as well
