Background: One of the factors that seems to influence the incidence of moral injuries in nurses is resilience. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the relationship between resilience and moral injury in emergency department nurses.
Methods: This descriptive-cross-sectional study of analytical type was conducted from April to June 1403 with the participation of 120 nurses from the emergency departments of educational hospitals in Urmia city using two-stage sampling. In this study, three demographic questionnaires, Connor Davidson Resilience Questionnaire and William Moral Injury Occurrence Tool were used to collect data. Data analysis was performed using Pearson correlation coefficient, multiple linear regression, independent t-test and one-way analysis of variance in SPSS-23 statistical software..
Findings: The mean age of the participants in the study was 32.7 ± 45.5 years. The mean resilience score was 78.33 ± 0.54, and the mean moral injury score was 30.55 ± 0.78. There was a significant inverse relationship between resilience and moral injury among emergency department nurses (p=0.00 and r=-0.25).
Conclusion: In this study, given that resilience and moral Injury in nurses were at a high level and that increasing resilience in nurses reduced the level of moral Injury in them, it is appropriate for nursing managers to take measures such as increasing organizational support and improving their working conditions to promote resilience in them, so that this can moderate moral Injury in nurses.
