Background and purpose: With the growing number of chronic diseases and the tendency of the population moving towards old age, the need for home health care centers has increased. Treatment at Home as a new approach can have many pros for the patient, family and society. The current research goals to explore the current status of home care providers from the point of view of service providers and receivers, investigate existing challenges and provide solutions to improve these services.
Method: This study is a qualitative research whose data was gained through semi-structured interviews. The statistical population of the research included experts, policy makers and nursing managers of medical sciences universities in Tehran, officials of home care centers, informed professors and patients and families receiving services. 28 people (15 service providers and 13 service receivers) were included in the research using the purposeful sampling method. So as to analyzing the data, the conventional content analysis method was used with the help of MAXQDA2020 software.
Findings: Overall, there are challenges in four groups, including the challenges of the family with the center (personnel, treatment and cost), the challenges of the center with the family (treatment process, communication and security), the challenges of the center with the hospital (how to refer and previous treatments, violation) and existing challenges in policy-making (culture-making, statutes, insurance, violation of the law and providing authorization). And proposed solutions were classified in the form of solutions related to treatment system, law and culture-building and society.
Conclusion: The results of this investigation demonstrated that the home care plan in Iran is facing lots of challenges in various fields. Also, solving these challenges by using of the solutions proposed by the research, can play a big role in improvement of services in related companies and it can be effective in planning of organizations and institutions related to this plan.
