زمینه و هدف: سقط جنین پدیده‌ای پزشکی- اجتماعی است که با سلامت مادران در ارتباط است. هدف مطالعه حاضر بررسی شیوع و تعیین کننده‌های سقط جنین (القایی و خودبخودی) در میان زنان روستایی استان فارس است.
روش بررسی: در پژوهش مقطعی حاضر تعداد 1247 نفر زن روستایی ساکن استان فارس با استفاده از پرسشنامه محقق‌ساخته و تکنیک نمونه‌گیری خوشه‌ای در مهر ماه سال 1394 پیمایش شدند. پرسشنامه مذکور شامل سه بخش یعنی مشخصات جمعیت شناختی زوجین، تاریخچه باروری و ایده‌آل‌ها و نگرش‌های باروری بوده است. برای تحلیل داده‌ها و بررسی روابط بین متغییرها از آزمون‌های کای اسکوئر، همبستگی پیرسون و رگرسیون لجستیک در نرم افزار SPSS نسخه 22 استفاده شده است.
یافته‌ها: براساس یافته‌های تحقیق، حدود 22 درصد زنان روستایی مطالعه شده حداقل یکبار سقط را تجربه نموده‌اند. تحلیل دو متغیره نشان داد که تحصیلات زنان و همسران آنها و نیز مذهب با تجربه سقط جنین رابطه معنی‌داری دارد (05/0˂P). تحلیل رگرسیون لجستیک نیز نشان داد که احتمال تجربه سقط در بین زنان با تحصیلات دانشگاهی پایین‌تر از زنان با سطوح تحصیلی راهنمایی و کمتر و نیز زنان با تحصیلات متوسطه- دیپلم است.
نتیجه‌گیری کلی: سقط جنین در میان زنان روستایی مورد مطالعه شیوع نسبتاً بالایی دارد. از آنجایی که ویژگی‌های اقتصادی اجتماعی زنان روستایی با سایر زنان متفاوت است، از این‌رو در سیاست‌های جمعیتی جدید زنان روستایی نیاز به توجهی ویژه دارند. توانمند سازی و آموزش زنان روستایی درباب وسایل پیشگیری مدرن می‌تواند سقط جنین در آنها را کاهش دهد.
