The Iran Journal of Nursing (IJN) is the official, peer-reviewed, open-access, scientific publication of Iran University of Medical Sciences. Published on a continuous basis, IJN is dedicated to advancing the science and practice of nursing and midwifery by disseminating high-quality research and scholarly work to clinicians, educators, managers, and researchers worldwide .
The journal serves as a rigorous and ethical platform for the publication of evidence that can inform and transform clinical practice, health policy, and professional education. While IJN is a primary resource for the nursing and midwifery community in Iran and the Eastern Mediterranean region, it actively encourages submissions from around the world that address issues of broader, global relevance and contribute to the international evidence base .
Focus Areas
IJN publishes original research, reviews, and scholarly papers that advance knowledge in all fields of nursing and midwifery, with a particular emphasis on:

  • Clinical Practice: Research that explores clinical interventions, patient safety, quality of care, symptom management, and the care of individuals across the lifespan.
  • Midwifery and Women's Health: Studies addressing maternal and newborn health, reproductive health, gynecological care, and midwifery-led models of care.
  • Nursing and Midwifery Education: Investigations into pedagogical methods, curriculum development, simulation-based learning, competency assessment, and the cultivation of critical thinking in students.
  • Management and Leadership: Research on healthcare systems, workforce planning, leadership development, organizational behavior, and policies that shape the practice environment for nurses and midwives.
  • Community and Family Health: Studies focused on health promotion, disease prevention, public health interventions, and the role of practitioners in community settings, with special attention to the care of patients and their families.
  • Psychosocial and Mental Health: Research addressing the psychological well-being of patients, families, and the healthcare professionals who care for them.
Methodological Diversity and Multidisciplinary Reach
The journal welcomes both qualitative and quantitative research approaches, recognizing that diverse methodologies are essential for a comprehensive understanding of complex healthcare phenomena. We particularly value studies that employ rigorous designs, including randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, phenomenological inquiries, grounded theory, and action research.
Furthermore, IJN is pleased to consider multidisciplinary articles that intersect with nursing and midwifery. This includes research that explores the integration of nursing with fields such as psychology, sociology, public health, health informatics, and rehabilitation sciences, particularly as they relate to direct patient care and the support of the patient's family.
Article Types
The journal welcomes submissions in the following categories:
  • Original Research Articles (Quantitative, Qualitative, or Mixed-Methods)
  • Review Articles (Systematic Reviews, Meta-Analyses, Scoping Reviews)
  • Scholarly and Methodological Papers
  • Case Reports
  • Brief Research Reports

Commitment to Quality and International Visibility
To ensure the highest standards, all submissions undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process. IJN is committed to upholding the principles of publication ethics and integrity as outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
To guarantee international visibility and indexing, the full text of all articles is published in Persian, while the title, extended abstract, keywords, and references are provided in English. This structure allows IJN to bridge local knowledge with the global scientific community, enriching the discourse in nursing and midwifery worldwide .
