Background & Aim: Having cancer changes the meaning of a person's life. When people with cancer understand the meaning of life correctly, they learn to face death and try to fight the disease and finally, they will experience comfort. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the meaning of life in people with leukemia.
Materials & Methods: This study was a descriptive research. The population of this research was all people with leukemia in Tehran who were hospitalized in the oncology department in 1401. The participants included 200 people with leukemia who were selected according to the criteria for entering the research using continuous sampling from the research population. In this research, the data collection tools included the personal profile form and the meaning of life tool, which were completed by the samples in a self-report manner. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (analysis of variance tests, independent- t) were used for data analysis under SPSS-16 software.
Findings: The average meaning of life was 57.13 and the standard deviation was 11.39. Also, the average score of the meaning of life in the dimension of presence with a mean of 29.14 and a standard deviation of 5.90 was higher than the meaning search dimension with a mean of 27.98 and a standard deviation of 6.21. The meaning of life had a statistically significant relationship only with the marital status (P=0.011), so that Tukey's two-by-two comparison showed that the mean score of the meaning of life in married people was significantly higher than others.
Conclusion: The results of this research can be a step towards the implementation and implementation of meaning-based education by nurses for people with leukemia in order to improve the presence of meaning in life, the search for it in life and the meaning of their life in general.
