زمینه و هدف: سالمندی با عوامل متعدد تهدید کننده سلامت از جمله سقوط همراه است که پدیده "ترس از سقوط" از عوارض آن محسوب می‌شود، به ویژه بعد از جراحی‌های ارتوپدی که محدودیت انجام فعالیت‌های روزمره زندگی، انزوا طلبی و عدم مشارکت اجتماعی را در پی ‌دارد. این مطالعه با هدف تعیین ترس از سقوط و عوامل مرتبط با آن در سالمندان با سابقه جراحی ارتوپدی ناشی از سقوط مراجعه کننده به درمانگاه‌های ارتوپدی بیمارستان‌های منتخب وابسته به دانشگاه علوم پزشکی ایران انجام شد.
روش بررسی: پژوهش حاضر، مطالعه‌ای مقطعی از نوع همبستگی توصیفی بود که 280 نفر از سالمندان مراجعه کننده به درمانگاه‌های بیمارستان‌های منتخب تهران در آن شرکت داشتند. نمونه‌گیری به روش در دسترس انجام شد. ابزار گردآوری داده‌ها شامل فرم کوتاه شده‌ی آزمون شناختی (AMT)، فرم مشخصات جمعیت شناختی و پرسشنامه مقیاس کارآمدی در سقوط (FES-I) بود که به صورت مصاحبه حضوری با سالمند تکمیل شد. داده‌ها به روش آمار توصیفی، استنباطی و با آزمون‌های آماری تی مستقل، آنالیز واریانس یک طرفه و رگرسیون خطی در نرم افزار SPSS نسخه 20 و در سطح معنی‌داری 05/0  P≤مورد تجزیه و تحلیل قرار گرفتند.
یافته‌ها: میانگین سنی سالمندان شرکت‌کننده در این مطالعه 29/4 ± 50/69 بود و 65 درصد از شرکت کنندگان زن و 35 درصد مرد بودند ضریب همبستگی پیرسون نشان‌دهنده ارتباط مستقیم بین ترس از سقوط و سن بود (008/0=P ، 159/0-r=)، ضمن این که نتایج حاصل بین متغیر ترس از سقوط با پرفشاری خون، تعداد داروهای مصرفی سالمند و شکستگی لگن نیز ارتباط آماری معنی‌دار و مستقیم را نشان داد (05/0>P). همچنین 9/97 درصد از شرکت کنندگان سابقه‌ی بیش از یک بار جراحی ارتوپدی داشتند که در ارتباط مستقیم با ترس و نگرانی بالا از سقوط می‌باشد.
نتیجه‌گیری کلی: فراوانی ترس از سقوط در سالمندانی که سابقه جراحی ارتوپدی داشتند، در سطح قابل توجهی بالاتر بوده است. با توجه به پیامدهای نامطلوب ترس از سقوط در سالمندان، توصیه می‌گردد برای سالمندان تحت جراحی ارتوپدی که در بیمارستان بستری می‌شوند، حین ترخیص برنامه‌های آموزشی مشاوره‌ای گذاشته شود تا بدین طریق، زمینه‌ای جهت ارتقاء سطح سلامت و دستیابی به سالمندی فعال و همچنین کاهش ترس بیماران سالمند از سقوط فراهم آید.
